APPROACH
Chardee MacDennis is a game created by characters in the television show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. The show is a dark comedy that follows characters Charlie, Dee, Mack, and Dennis who are dive bar owners in Philadelphia. They constantly put themselves in awkward and controversial situations which they seem to make worse as they go along. My project reflects the edgy quality of the show by using halftone and collaged images and bold type that been cut and skewed from the baseline.

Package Design I
APPROACH
The goal of the project was to try and reach a new demographic by changing the branding for Savannah Bee Company. Color blocking and minimal illustrations give the brand a more contemporary look and feel while the smooth curves and rounded terminals of the typeface make it more approachable. It was very important to me that the brand retained the welcoming qualities of it’s original design, because the company is proud of their small beginnings.

Package Design II
APPROACH
Lumbermann’s Double IPA is a fictional beer that I created based off of the idea of that a can be designed for lumberjacks only. The beer is meant to be over-the-top manly in every way, including size and alcohol content. The hand drawn log gives the beer a rough look and feel which is juxtapositioned by the crisp and bold banner and typography.

Visual Systems I
APPROACH
Food Not Bombs is a non-profit foundation that feeds the homeless and protesters. The fictional music festival was meant to help the non-profit charity raise money for families in need. The festival would host Folk and Crust Punk bands over a course of two days in order to raise money. The poster and other deliverables were meant to reflect punk aesthetic and attitude and also possess a political message. The design was inspired by Russian Constructivist style and World War II Propaganda.

Typography II
APPROACH
Noir City film festival is an annual festival held at the Castro Theater in San Francisco. The Film Festival showcases a number of iconic Film Noir movies over the course of nine days. I wanted the look and feel of the designs to have a “Noir” quality with bold black and white images and torn paper to add an ominous quality. The tall thin typeface used for the headline adds an Art Deco flair that was associated with the films.

Insight Card Game

Graphic Design II
APPROACH
This project was based off of a book called Kokology: The Game of Self Discovery. The point of the game is to gain a deeper insight into your subconscious, and ultimately yourself, by reading a series of scenarios and responding to them using the given answers. I thought that changing the form of the game would make it easier to play with others and also make it more of a game, rather than a book. The game is broken down into four separate categories with their own icons, names, and colors; work, family, relationships, love.

Typography III
APPROACH
The purpose of the project was to design an architecture book based off a concept which reflected the architecture. For my book, I chose the subject of “squats” or abandoned buildings that people have turned into shelter. In the center of Denmark, there is a small community of squatters that live in an abandoned military barracks. I thought the subject was interesting because these two completely different societies have managed to coexist since the mid 70’s.

Search & Destroy Mobile App
INSTRUCTOR

COURSE
Graphic Design III
APPROACH
For this project students were asked to create a mobile service application for the iphone that is currently not on the market. I chose to create and design an app that allows street skaters to find skate spots and see skill level, terrain, and risk before they go to the actual spot. The app also allows skaters to see spots that are in their area and lets them add spots that aren’t on the map. I thought the design should reflect the grittiness of the city streets and rough and tumble aspects of skateboarding.

APPROACH
Since it’s early beginnings Vans has been centered around authenticity and individualism. My goal was to try and capture that spirit in their Social Responsibility Report. Vans’s brand idea is carried through not only to their merchandise, but also their company values. They believe in supporting cities in which they operate and giving back to those communities and communities all over the country. The report reflects their ideals in design and content.

Typography IV
APPROACH
At the beginning of the assignment the instructor posed the question “Where Are You?”. We were then asked to answer, either literally or figuratively, using sound, motion, and typography. I chose to answer the question literally, but I wanted the video to reflect my personality in some way. I chose to use places that I often go to when I’m not doing school work or working. I used various styles of hand-drawn typefaces and quick cuts to give a sense of my personality traits and artistic style.
